BCCI to retire Dhoni’s number seven jersey

Following the announcement of Dhoni’s retirement on Sunday (August 18th), his fans made a special request to the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI to retire Dhoni’s number seven jersey as well. The reason for their request is to respect Dhoni and not to allow anyone to use this jersey later.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket last evening. In a post on social media Instagram, Dhoni, popularly known as ‘Captain Cool’, has confirmed his retirement.

The BCCI confirmed the matter in a press release on Sunday (August 18). The statement said that Dhoni has about 7 million followers on Twitter, all of whom want to retire with Dhoni and his jersey. It has been heard that Dhoni’s teammate former cricketer Dinesh Karthik has also agreed to the fans’ request.

Earlier, the legendary Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey was also retired by the BCCI.
