England took a 1-0 lead in the T20 series against Pakistan with a big win. The hosts won the second match of the series at Old Trafford in Manchester by 5 wickets. The English snatched the victory with the help of captain Eoin Morgan and David Malan’s bat.
The Lions batsmen were devastating from the start as they battled for the huge target of 196 runs given by Pakistan. Johnny Bairstow and Tom Banton scored 6 runs in the opening match. Bairstow returned to the pavilion after playing a cameo inning of 44 off 24 balls. Banton went back to 20 with the next ball.
However, Captain Morgan and Malan later took the helm of the team. A pair of 112 runs for the third wicket laid the foundation for England’s victory in the match. Going close to victory, Morgan returned to the bowling alley with 16 runs. But before that, he played 4 sixes and 6 fours from 33 balls in a stormy inning of 7 runs. After losing two more wickets, Malan ensured the victory of the team with 5 balls and equal wickets in hand. Malan, who saw his fifth fifty in the International Twenty20, played an innings of 54 off 36 balls.
For Pakistan, Shadab Khan took 3 wickets and Harris Rauf took 2 wickets.
Earlier, Pakistan lost the toss and elected to bat and scored 195 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated overs. Hafeez played a devastating inning of 69 off 36 balls with 4 sixes and 5 fours. The star batsman touched the milestone of two thousand runs on this day. Besides, captain Babar Azam played an innings of 56 runs in his 14th international T20 fifty in his career. Together with Virat Kohli-Aaron Finch, he signed the fastest 1500-run milestone.
