IPL franchises to organize their camps in Dubai
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises plan to organize a 12-15 day training camps in Dubai before IPL 2020 for their players. Most of the franchises InsideSport spoke to said they will surely organize training camps for their squad in Dubai. The proposed training camps will be scheduled around the first week of September. This means that the plan to maintain the national camp in Motera (Ahmedabad) for the Virat Kohli Indian team will now be put on hold.
“Yes, we know that some of the franchises will organize camps in Dubai. It is important, the players have not played for so long. Before IPL 2020, they need to be back in the best shape possible. We will not have problems with these camps because of the franchises, ” said Dhumal.
But when asked, what about the training ground for the national team, the BCCI official said this:
“We are still looking for the best possible solution. Nothing is finalized as such. In the next few days we will decide on this, but we must understand that the time in question is really very short “
In the meantime, whether it’s the Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, or any other IPL team, they have begun exploring the feasibility of training camp for their squad in Dubai. InsideSport spoke to 3 IPL franchises and they all confirmed that the training camp in the UAE is a must to prepare their squad for IPL 2020.
“We are exploring to start our camp from September 5 in Dubai. We have also contacted our foreign players and they are all comfortable with the idea of having a training camp in Dubai. That will be the best way to prepare for IPL 2020, ” said the IPL franchise officer involved in the preparations.
“Players from each team will have little practice. No matter where in the world they will come from, they will not be in the best shape. We normally organize our Pre-IPL camps in our franchise territory, but in the current Dubai situation, Abu Dhabi will be the best place to have a camp 2 weeks before the start of IPL, ” said the CEO of North India franchise.
According to some of the franchise officials, ICC’s state-of-the-art academy in Dubai will be the preferred choice for most franchises for their training camps. Once the IPL GC ends, they will seek BCCI’s support in this regard.
Given that the IPL franchises are committed to organizing their respective training camps in the UAE, the big question is whether the national team will travel to Australia without any national training camps before such a big tour. When will the entire Indian team get together and practice for red-ball cricket?
India is scheduled to play 4 sets of match trials in Australia starting in December this year. The squad is likely to go to Australia directly from Dubai and will spend two weeks in quarantine after reaching the Australian shores. In the current one-time scenario, the Indian cricket team will gather to prepare for Australia’s tough stay.
