The tournament will be played at the “four international venues of the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and the Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium.”

“5 teams named after the cities of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla, and Jaffna will participate in the League.” The Board said that “more than 70 international players and 10 top-level coaches have already confirmed their availability for the tournament along with Sri Lanka’s top national players.”

SLC, which had conceived the league in 2018, was previously optimistic about holding the event from August 8 to 22, pending the government’s decision to open its border for foreign arrivals. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to return to competitive cricket with Lanka Premier League (LPL), the country’s top Twenty20 tournament.

According to the details, up to 70 international players will participate in the tournament that will take place from 14th Nov to December 6, with five teams representing different cities. The matches will be played at four international venues across the country.

“More than 70 international players and 10 top-level coaches have already confirmed their availability to participate in this tournament together with Sri Lanka’s top national players,” the council said in a statement.

It should be noted here that SLC started its own cricket league in 2012 called the Sri Lanka Premier League. Only after a single season, the league was canceled.

The SLC Executive Committee, after a meeting on Monday, announced that the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League would take place from August 28 to September 20. A total of 23 matches will be played at four venues, while five teams will participate in the tournament.

As Cricket is slowly returning, some news has been more positive, and this time, it’s from Sri Lanka. While the Caribbean Premier League will begin on August 18 and continue until September 10, the SLC Executive Committee, after a meeting, announced that the Lanka Premier League would take place from Nov 14 to Dec 6, 2020.

The tournament, which will take place in four venues, will include five teams, named after the cities of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla, and Jaffna, with 70 international players and 10 high-profile coaches. However, teams won’t have a base spot and won’t even play most of their games to give them their name.

ESPNCricinfo reported that the board hopes to close a tournament sponsor before July 30 and find franchise owners in the weeks that follow. However, there has been no tournament director or event coordinator until now.
