Mother of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Passed Away
The mother of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif passed away in London, she was unwell. This has been announced by the leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). According to the Dawn News report, the leaders said on Sunday evening that 90-year-old Begum Shamim Akhtar had been ill for the past month. Last week, she went to a London hospital twice for a checkup.
Punjab PML-N Deputy General Secretary Ataullah Tarar said that he breathed his last on Sunday. He said that the body of Begum Akhtar is expected to be brought back to Lahore in a few days and buried next to the tomb of her husband Mian Sharif in the Sharif family’s residence at Jati Umra Raiwind.
Begum Akhtar traveled to the UK in February to meet her son, ignoring the advice of his doctors. At that time, Nawaz was undergoing treatment for his heart and kidney there. It is still not clear whether Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan for his mother’s funeral.
