Nasser Hussain praised Saeed Anwar on his birthday
Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised Saeed Anwar on his birthday. He did not hesitate to spend his pocket money to watch Anwar’s batting, he said.
In a special session of the Daily Mail, he expressed his feelings about the specialty of some of the special batsmen he met. Apart from Saeed Anwar, he also mentioned Virat Kohli, Brian Lara, and compatriot David Gower.
Seeing the batting beauty of Saeed Anwar offside is a relief for the eyes. I was surprised to see some old footage on Brian Lara’s backlift; How can batting so beautiful. In ODI cricket, Virat Kohli’s straightforward batting has overwhelmed me every time.
‘But I will give more priority to my childhood hero David Gower. I was fielding at the cover point in a match a long time ago against Leicestershire. David was digging some scenic boundaries around the place. I had nothing to do then but look at me with fascination. ‘
‘I was also delighted with Anwar’s cricketing philosophy. I was ready to spend a lot of money to watch him bat.
Saeed Anwar scored 4052 runs in 55 Tests with the help of 11 centuries. In ODI cricket, he scored 624 runs in 246 matches with 20 centuries. It is to be noted that the 194-run innings against India in ODIs in 1998 was long regarded as the highest individual run-scoring innings in ODI cricket.
