Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma will not play the first two matches
Opener Rohit Sharma and pacer Ishant Sharma have been dropped from the squad and will not be able to play the first two matches of the four-match Test series against Australia. A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the matter to cricket-based website ESPN Cricinfo.
Ishant Sharma, one of India’s best Test pacers, was injured in the middle of the 13th edition of the IPL. On the other hand, hard hitter opener Rohit Sharma got injured in the middle. Although Rohit was injured and played in the IPL play-off, Ishant Sharma did not play. Both were in India’s Test squad for the four-match Test series against Australia. But neither of them will play in the first two matches of the Test series starting from December 16.
Board sources said, ” If it was a T20 game, he would have had to bowl only four overs. Ishant could have come back quickly better. But it will still take him four weeks to fully return to the fitness of the Test match.
They said that Rohit and Ishant are not fully fit even though they are not injured. It will take them a while to fully fit. Both Rohit and Ishant have been rested for full service against Australia.
Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during this time. Due to which any foreigner has to go to Australia and stay in the 14-day compulsory quarantine. Neither Rohit nor Ishant is likely to go to Australia before next month.
India will face Australia in the ODI series from November 26. Then they will play the T20 series. Neither of them is in the ODI and T20 squads. So with the third Test, Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma will be able to return to the field. The white-clad fight will begin with the day-night Test in Adelaide on December 16.
