Rohit Sharma awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
Rohit Sharma has been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India’s highest state honor in sports. He is only the fourth cricketer in the country’s rich cricket history to receive such an honor.
Due to the recommendation of the National Sports Awards Committee, Rohit’s name has been appearing in the media for this award for a few days now. After Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, it was officially announced on Friday that Rohit is also getting this honor.
Along with Rohit, two-time Commonwealth Games, gold medalist wrestler Vinesh Fogat, badminton star Monica Ratra, women’s hockey team captain Rani Rampal and 2016 Paralympic gold medalist jumper Mariapan Thangavelu received the honor. Due to the epidemic, the Khel Ratna award is not being organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this time. The event will be held online instead.
