Sri Lankan Cricket Board suspended the LPL league

The Sri Lankan Premier League (LPL) was scheduled to run from August 26 to September 20. It was learned that the 23-match T20 league is being held at three venues. The participating teams were five based in Colombo, Gaul, Jaffna, Dambulla and Kandy. However, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board suspended the LPL 2020 league before it started. The league has been suspended due to the Corona situation.

“We have discussed the matter with the health department,” said Shammi Silva, president of the Lankan Cricket Board, over the suspension of the franchise-based league. They say 14 days quarantine is mandatory for anyone coming from abroad. In that case, it will be difficult to start the tournament at the end of August.

However, SLC has not completely deviated from the LPL plan. The SLC chief said they were keen to start the tournament in November after the end of the IPL.
