Unacademy joins IPL central sponsorship deal

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is just 3 weeks away. The BCCI is still busy arranging sponsorship. Vivo, a Chinese mobile phone maker, withdrew from title sponsorship as relations between India and China deteriorated. Fantasy cricket platform ‘Dream XI’ has been nominated as the title sponsor of the world’s most popular T20 tournament for Rs 222 crore after the BCCI re-invited tenders.

Future Group withdrew from the IPL’s central sponsorship at the last minute. This time they have been replaced by the educational platform ‘Unacademi’. The academy has signed a three-year central sponsorship agreement with the BCCI. In three years, the non-academy will have to spend around Tk 130 crore. In the race to win the title sponsorship, there was Dream XI, Baiju as well as An Academy.

Although the BCCI has not yet made a final announcement, it is certain that Unacademy joins the central sponsorship of the IPL 2020. A senior BCCI official told Inside Sports: “The contract with Unacademy is for 3 years. We will make an official announcement soon. ”

The BCCI says it earned Rs 617 crore from IPL sponsorship last year. But this year it has received only Rs 320 crore from sponsorship. The Indian board is likely to bring in another sponsor before the start of the tournament on September 19.

IPL 2020 sponsorships:

  • Title Sponsor – Dream XI – 222 Crores
  • Official Partners – Tata Motors, Unacademi – 40 crore
  • Umpire Partner – 26 crore
  • Strategic Time Out Partner – 30 crores

The BCCI has not yet released the schedule of the mega tournament. COVID-19 is thought to be the culprit in the UAE. The UAE’s hot and humid weather is worrying the board at least a little bit. The BCCI has been adhering to many rules and protocols before the start of the IPL, keeping in mind the coronavirus epidemic.
